matches of New Zealand vs Pakistan

Pakistan have defeated New Zealand nine times at this World Cup, with 7 victories going their way while only two wins for New Zealand; another five-game tie ended without any results being determined.

The match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium will be crucial as both teams vie for a semifinal place in the tournament. Check out all of the key statistics before heading into battle! Here we will discuss the matches of New Zealand vs Pakistan.

1. Test Match

New Zealand will hope to avoid a whitewash when they take on Pakistan in their second Test at Karachi’s National Stadium on Thursday. They were given an early boost with Kane Williamson back as captain following his step down as one of three in ODI series.

The Kiwis suffered an early blow, losing openers Rohit Sharma and Colin de Grandhomme for no runs in the opening over of their match against Pakistan, however this did not keep them behind as Ish Sodhi dismissed nightwatchman Mir Hamza and put his side in charge.

Pakistan got off to an impressive start, as Ayub struck 27 runs off eight balls with three sixes and two fours before unfortunately being run out by backing up too far; though saved by Adam Milne’s throw from the boundary but later succumbing to wicketkeeper Ben Conway’s incredible diving catch.

After that, New Zealand quickly took control with quickfire performances by Williamson and Watling – both hitting half centuries to take their side to an impressive total of 319. When Boult hit Azhar Ali in his second over of day two, however Fawad Alam and Rizwan Ali held their nerve to take the match into its final day.

New Zealand and Pakistan have faced off in 62 Test matches so far, with New Zealand winning 14 while Pakistan triumphing on 25 occasions. There were 23 draws as well.

In one-day internationals (ODIs), New Zealand have long held an edge against Pakistan with 24 wins to their nine victories in this rivalry. Both sides met twice during 2018-19 World Cup competition; both came out victorious.

The Black Caps have struggled in the UAE and they will hope to avoid defeat when they take on Pakistan in the second ODI on Thursday. Winning only two out of their 11 previous matches there, they also wish to avoid yet another series loss here.

2. ODI Match

ODI matches typically feature two teams of eleven players and are limited to fifty overs per innings, making ODI cricket one of the most widely broadcast forms of international cricket. The first ODI was played between Australia and West Indies in 1984 in the second final of Benson & Hedges World Series Cup; its result led to more dissension than joy; since then there have been 20 ties in ODI cricket games alone!

Pakistan won their first One-Day International series win over New Zealand since 2007 on Wednesday with a 26-run win in Karachi. Babar Azam shared in an outstanding second-wicket partnership of 108 runs with Imam-ul-Haq to propel Pakistan to 287 for seven after 50 overs, while New Zealand suffered from bat failure, being bowled out for 261 after 49.1 overs despite half centuries from Tom Blundell (65) and debutant Cole McConchie (64).

New Zealand have only won one of their eight ODI matches against Pakistan since 2010, but are determined to improve their form ahead of the 2023 World Cup in India. Kane Williamson will use this five-match ODI series to experiment with his squad and find their ideal combination before tournament kicks off.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and sent New Zealand into bat in the opening ODI. Unfortunately for New Zealand early on they found themselves in trouble as Rashin Ravindra and Finn Allen both fell early on, leaving them on 5-1 after 10 overs. A partnership of 106 runs between Tim Seifert (53) and Will Young (39) gave New Zealand hope of making a comeback, until Azam chopped one on Adam Milne into Tim Seifert’s stumps off Adam Milne in Adam Milne’s 18th over which put paid to any such possibility.

On Friday, both sides will look to make an impressive start to their ODI series with New Zealand in Game Five of their series. Pakistan have won 56 out of 100 ODI matches versus New Zealand while they’ve only managed 50 victories themselves.

3. T20I Match

New Zealand won their second T20I and went ahead 2-0 in the series by defeating Pakistan by 21 runs at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Although Kane Williamson experienced tightness in his hamstring after just 10 overs, New Zealand managed to battle through difficult circumstances to come out victorious in this match.

Pakistan started off its run-chase well but quickly lost both wickets. Saim Ayub scored 27 from eight balls with three sixes but was unfortunate to be run out against Adam Milne while Babar Azam struck some powerful shots before being caught and bowled by Mark Chapman at long on in the 13th over.

Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell provided New Zealand with some hope in scoring runs, yet without enough support from other batsmen. Shadab Khan struck at Glenn Phillips off the final delivery of the 18th over, taking away any hope of an comeback by New Zealand.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first at Seddon Park. Although their target was expected to be batter-friendly, their innings quickly fizzled out as they fell to 3-27 after just three overs – Shaheen Afridi took two wickets in one over while Finn Allen and Tim Seifert both exited shortly thereafter.

Michael Bracewell was promoted up the order to play alongside Ben Robinson as they put together an impressive 91-run fifth wicket partnership which helped guide New Zealand to 226-8 from 20 overs.

Babar Azam spearheaded Pakistan’s fightback with some breathtaking sixes and fours from Ish Sodhi but was unfortunate on numerous occasions, missing an easy six off Sodhi’s first ball of the final over and top-edging Tim Southee delivery into Conway at deep midwicket, thus losing his wicket and being caught. Unfortunately for Pakistan, Sodhi and Southee wrapped up the match within one over, depriving them a significant victory.

4. T20I Series

New Zealand and Pakistan met for a five-match Twenty20 International series earlier this year and won 4-1. New Zealand have now taken an early 1-0 lead in four ODI series against Pakistan, hoping to capture their maiden win against them at Lahore this Sunday.

New Zealand will be led by stand-in captain Tim Southee after Kane Williamson stepped aside as captain during red-ball format matches. Tim will be joined in this squad by Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Ish Sodhi and Josh Clarkson.

New Zealand have taken control of the T20I series against Pakistan so far, winning both games at Seddon Park. A strong showing by Pakistan will make for an intriguing final match at Seddon Park and ensure it will be an exciting matchup.

Pakistan made an excellent start at Eden Park’s first game as Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam both scored half-centuries in an 87-run partnership between them, but their second innings faltered badly as they struggled to meet an impossible target of 152 runs in 10 overs.

New Zealand’s batsmen struggled against the ball as Rashin Ravindra was dismissed in just the second over and Finn Allen and Chapman both fell early on – New Zealand were reduced to 54-4 at the end of power play and that would prove their fateful outcome.

Adam Milne and Ben Sears assisted in slowing the Pakistan batting by bowling economical spells at one end. Iftikhar Ahmed then took charge, taking four wickets with his off-spinner on an uneven pitch which gripped and turned, including Tim Seifert (19), Matt Henry (1), Ish Sodhi (2) as well as taking a catch to dismiss Will Young while also being instrumental in running out Chapman.

Pakistan won a thrilling final T20I, as hosts Lahore tried hard for victory but were ultimately bowled out for just 92 runs, giving Pakistan their series victory and ending any hope of Lahore scoring their first-ever win ever in Lahore.
